Upon examination, NWA 15405 was found to be a fragmental breccia. It consists of up to 1 cm sized basaltic and black impact melt clasts, which are pieces of rock that were melted and then solidified during an impact event. Additionally, the meteorite contains up to 1 mm sized mineral fragments set in a clastic matrix.
The predominant minerals in NWA 15405 are exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase, which are indicative of a basaltic composition. Other minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, and ilmenite. Notably, no metallic iron was detected in this meteorite.
Overall, NWA 15405 is an interesting and unique meteorite specimen for collectors and scientists alike. Its composition and brecciated texture provide important insights into the processes that occur during impact events in the early Solar System.
